On Saturday 5th November 1910 I was sent with Sapper Bolton

to Mt. Davis in relief of other men. We went out by tram to

J

Kennedy Town, and not knowing our way we asked a civilian European

I'e who was in the tram with us, which was the way to It. Davis.

We got to told us to turn up by the flagstaff on Jubilee Road. the flagstaff and turned up the concrete road as far as the first bend and then thought we had lost our way; it was a misty rainy

We turned back and rent fur- day, and we could'nt see very far. along Jubiloe Road about a mile when we came to road with a notice board with Deacon's bungalow on it. Seeing telephone winor to the bungalow we went to it to see if we could telephone to our Cor- porel at Ft. Davis. Just as we got to the house the civilian we had met on the tram came out, and siad I suppose you've lost your way we said we had and he asked us if wo would come in and have some refreshment, while his 'boy'was getting drinks he

went into the house we being on the verandah and brought out

two large rolls of plane, about 5 ft. long.

He stood one in a corner and unrolled the other and showed it

to us

*

On it he pointed out the flagstaff (naval) and the con- crete road leading up to t. Davis Battery: he pointed out on it t the two guns which are now mounted and which I now know to be Nos. 1 and 2 and told us to follow on beyond then till we came to & group of matsheds on our left, and said your R.E. are quartered

about 20 yards beyond that.

I noticed the positions of three other guns marked by circles on the plan and I now know them to be those of Nos. 3,4, 5 gure. The plan had also marked on it the shelters which I now know to be the 48 and 32 mens shelters, and the Artillery store near No.1

gun.

The concrete road was shown as far as the 48 mens shelter.
